Fornax Advanced Materials, Inc. (Fornax-AM) is pleased to announce the appointment of John F. Havermann II to its Board of Directors. Recently named President and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Havermann brings over 35 years of mission, executive and board experience to his expanded role. He has held executive management positions at Parsons Corporation, RTX, SAIC, and General Dynamics, developing a reputation for excellence in weapons systems design, manufacturing, and on-time delivery. He also has served as Board Chair of the National Cyber Security Alliance and as Technical Advisor to the Maryland Cyber Investment Partnership. Mr. Havermann is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with distinguished service in the communications, intelligence, and space communities.   


In welcoming Mr. Havermann to the board, Chairman Gary Klopfenstein commented, “We are excited to welcome John as a member of the Board of Directors of Fornax. He brings a combination of deep industry experience, strong leadership and exceptional vision to the role and will be a key part of the success of the company going forward.”

Fornax-AM also grew its slate of officers, tapping Michael W. Kauffman as Sr. Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary, and Ellen R. Lux as Sr. Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Assistant Corporate Treasurer. Mr. Kauffman joins Fornax-AM with over 35 years of private and corporate practice in federal procurement, national security and cybersecurity law. A former partner in the Washington, DC law offices of Holland & Knight, he has held executive legal positions at Dell Technologies, Proteus Technologies, and General Dynamics. Mr. Kauffman is a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he specialized in anti-submarine warfare and cryptographic avionics. Mr. Kauffman will oversee the legal, contracts, and regulatory compliance of the company.

Ms. Lux joins Fornax-AM with over 35 years of experience in aerospace and defense. Over the past 24 years, she has held several challenging executive roles within the finance, operations, supply chain, program management, and quality assurance organizations of RTX. Ms. Lux is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where she served as a communications officer in multiple combat theaters. She also has held leadership positions in several industry associations, including chair of the Conflict Minerals Working Group of the Aerospace Industry Association, and lead of an international pilot for collecting supplier provenance within the International Aerospace Environmental Group. Ms. Lux will oversee the operations of the company.


Chairman Klopfenstein joined Mr. Havermann in welcoming Mr. Kauffman and Ms. Lux to Fornax-AM, noting “Mike and Ellen are key additions to the senior leadership team. Both have the requisite experience and skills to ensure that compliance and operations are managed at the highest level. We are fortunate to have such high-quality people on our team.

Fornax-AM researches, develops, and manufactures a variety of light weight, high density products composed of advanced carbon and ceramic composites using a unique, highly efficient additive manufacturing process. Product applications vary but include, without limitation, harsh environment concealments, personnel protective gear, small modular reactor cladding, rocket nozzles, cislunar shelters, and hypersonic flight control surfaces. Fornax-AM focuses on supporting DoE, DoD and NASA missions, as well as the broader aerospace and defense community.
